Outgoing US President Barack Obama would, for one last time yesterday, call on his country men and women to effect change in their nation in his farewell speech. The President made the point that people should not wait on others to take positive action, but to do so themselves.
Change, no matter how small has to start somewhere. Today, let that somewhere be within yourself. Do not do it for anyone else, but for yourself first. Be proud of your actions and be patient with them.
Change cannot succeed without patience. Nothing of worth is rushed, since there are no shortcuts to total and complete transformations of practices and ideologies.
Finally, do not let positive change have a short shelf life. Consistency is crucial. Also, think long term. What begins as ‘making a difference’ now, can one day be the foundations upon which a new generation can lead productive and fulfilling lives.
